"Far Cry 5" was revealed to be the name of the sequel to 2014 video game Far Cry 4 during a Ubisoft press conference in Paris, France on 24 May 2015 in Paris, France. The game is a standalone sequel to Far Cry 4 set in 2017, a setting described by the developers as being in a "post-apocalyptic" state. The game takes place on an island called Tanegashima, which is fictional island located in the southern part of the Pacific Ocean belonging to Japan. The area was settled in the 17th century by European and American traders and missionaries due to its fertile soils, and at one point was controlled by the United States.
