The film's trailer launched on 11 August 2012 was released simultaneously with the audio launch.[51] The audio of the film, composed by Harris Jayaraj, was released by Yash Raj Studios on 5 August 2012.[52][53]

The film's audio launch event was held at the Yash Raj Studios in Chennai on 5 August 2012, with the entire team of the film and the prominent personalities from the Tamil film industry attending the event.[48][49] On 5 August 2012, the film's audio release event was opened by the lead actors and the producers of the film for the first time, along with the technicians and the distributors.[50]

The film opened in around 1,300 screens in India on 26 August 2012, across 650 screens in Tamil Nadu, 650 in Telangana, 300 in Andhra Pradesh and 500 in Karnataka. The film had the highest number of distributors of all the films screened in India on the opening day.[82] On the second day, the film had recorded the second best opening of the year, after Jodhaa Akbar.
