Honnold's climbing career began in 2000 when he placed the first free solo of the classic 500-foot Yosemite El Capitan. Since then, he has continued to make significant free solo ascents of American hard rock, indoor climbing, traditional alpine climbing, and ice, and has even attempted to free solo a few of the world's highest mountains.
Honnold is a gifted athlete who continues to push the boundaries of what free solo climbing is capable of. At the same time, he is also an entrepreneurial innovator whose peak climbing ability is complemented by the flexibility of his off-duty lifestyle. Together, these pursuits have taken Honnold to the mountaintops of Yosemite, El Capitan, and the world's highest peaks. Yet a good deal of his free solo climbing is done in remote areas where other climbers are few and far between. As a result, much of Honnold's time is spent alone and isolated, and he must both be constantly on his guard to protect himself from being injured and to protect his equipment from the elements.
With an outstanding performance in the matinee, the comedy Get Him to the Greek, starring Vince Vaughn and Salma Hayek, is likely to add to the Top 10, and is playing in more theaters than any other film this weekend. The film grossed $3.2 million this weekend and should pass $30 million domestically by Wednesday.
was the only other new title, debuting in five theaters in New York and Los Angeles to $85k, averaging $17k. It expands to nine theaters on November 27th. Despite an A- CinemaScore and a supporting cast that includes Gerrit Graham, Jane Seymour and Diane Keaton, the film is on track to fail to reach $15 million by its Christmas Day.
The Top 10 films grossed $131.1 million, which is up a solid 8% from last year's same weekend. With this weekend's results, the Top 10 is split fairly evenly between last year's top five (Dark Knight Rises, Moneyball, Toy Story 3, Hugo and 21 Jump Street) and this year's top five (The Hunger Games, The Hobbit, Captain Phillips, Edge of Tomorrow and The Grand Budapest Hotel).
The weekend's key draw was Warner Bros.' PG-13 action/comedy, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, which looks like it may take the top spot. The first two Hobbit movies grossed $1.02 billion domestically, a record for any other franchise. Its latest outing, which features a whopping 34% more screen time, has a shot at becoming the biggest domestic gross of any film this year.
One of the most exciting projects exploiting this potential is Nothing So Strange (Brian Flemming, 2003), a mockumentary about the assassination of Bill Gates. Nothing Se Strange is the first feature film to have its worldwide commercial release debut on the Internet. From about US$3 the entire film can be downloaded as a Quicktime movie, free from copy-protection or limited-viewing disablers. 827ec27edc
