The next drawing shows the anatomical structure during a continuous action of a male figure running. The figure is composed of two basic shapes: two activated arms and two activated legs with one knee in the air. The two arms and two legs connect to each other through the shoulder-neck-hip. To activate or deactivate the arms, the shoulder joint, then the neck joint, rotate. To activate or deactivate the legs, the hip joint rotates. When the leg is in the air, the knee joint rotates down and the leg is bent at the knee joint.
This exercise is similar to the previous dynamic study of a human body in motion. To execute the poses, you will need a video camera or a motion study filmed by a tripod. Have the camera focus on the body without any distractions. Be careful not to focus on any external movement, especially the feet.
The next exercise is a figure standing long and showing the anatomical structure of the leg joints. For this study, we focused on the level of the thigh and the knee. Draw long, and do not include any part of the sole of the foot, or the ankle joint. To avoid drawing the leg from the waist, you can place the leg on a mattress or on something that feels comfortable for you, keeping it away from the drawing.
The final drawing is a body in repose. Pose over a pillow or something soft. You will want the model to rest with his or her arms bent at the elbows, head at ten o’clock, with a passive orientation. This is a restful pose for the back, belly, chest, and spine. To add energy to the pose, have the model breathe out sharply, or look straight ahead and then back into the drawing. d2c66b5586
